Honda Activa CNG A Detailed Review

Honda Activa CNG: Scooters have long been one of the most affordable and convenient modes of transportation. For buyers seeking even greater affordability, CNG kits offer a practical solution. We recently had the opportunity to test ride the Honda Activa CNG equipped with a Lovato CNG kit, a versatile aftermarket option available for various scooters, including the Honda Activa.

Design and Build

The Honda Activa CNG retains the familiar design of the regular Activa. The test model, provided by Lovato, featured green-themed branding, but buyers can expect their scooter’s original color to remain unchanged. The under-seat storage is reduced as it accommodates the CNG kit components, while two small CNG tanks (1 kg each) are neatly placed under the handlebar. Together, these tanks offer a range of approximately 120 km.

Performance and Handling

Switching to CNG does affect performance. The Activa CNG feels less zippy compared to its petrol counterpart, making overtaking and sharp turns more challenging. The front-heavy design due to the CNG tanks impacts handling, particularly at low speeds. However, cruising at steady speeds remains comfortable.

Mileage and Cost-Effectiveness

The Activa CNG boasts impressive mileage of 80 km/kg, significantly reducing running costs. While the petrol Activa costs around ₹1.3 per km in Delhi, the CNG version lowers this to just ₹0.61 per km. With its economical operation, the Activa CNG is an excellent option for cost-conscious riders.

CNG Kit Details

Priced at approximately ₹15,000, the Lovato CNG kit is ARAI-certified, ensuring safety and compliance. The kit includes two cylinders with a combined capacity of 1.2 kg, offering practical range and affordability.

Safety and Practicality

The Lovato CNG kit has passed rigorous ARAI testing, ensuring a safe and reliable experience. The Activa CNG is well-insulated, and its fitment process, conducted by authorized dealers, ensures minimal compromise to the scooter’s functionality.

Honda Activa Electric: A Glimpse into the Future

In addition to CNG options, Honda is also gearing up for the EV revolution with the launch of the Activa Electric. This electric iteration is expected to feature removable dual 1.3 kWh battery packs with a range of up to 100 km and advanced features such as LED lighting, a USB-C charging port, and multiple riding modes. The Activa Electric is anticipated to be priced at ₹1.3 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
